I don't live in New Zealand. Can I become a Modern Apprentice?

You need to be living in New Zealand to do a Modern Apprenticeship.

I'm older than 21. Can I start a Modern Apprenticeship?

Modern Apprenticeships are for 16-21 year olds, but talk to a Coordinator about other training options.

What is a Co-ordinator?

A Co-ordinator is someone in your region who will help you get started and help you along the way. A Coordinator is not your employer.

How do I confirm completion of my apprenticeship?

For confirmation of completion of your apprenticeship, please fill in the request form (Word doc, choose "enable macros" when prompted) and send it with a photocopy of your identification to servicecentre@tec.govt.nz, or

Details of an apprenticeship completed after 1993 may be held by the Industry Training Organisation.

Can I do a Modern Apprenticeship on a student visa?

You need to be able to live and work in New Zealand while doing your Modern Apprenticeship.

How long does it take to do a Modern Apprenticeship?

Most Modern Apprenticeships programmes take between 2 to 4 years.

I can't find any ads for Modern Apprenticeships. Does that mean I can't do one?

Employers don't always advertise positions as 'Modern Apprenticeships', so let them know at interviews that you want to be one.

How do I find a job?

Try newspapers, work websites, and sending out your CV. Parents, friends, and your Coordinator can help too.
